Barnie, the farm dog...

Barnie left us yesterday... he was 15 years old; a fine dog, gentle, courageous, good looking, friendly and loyal.

He came to us as a little pub, a lady got him at an auction but decided that he would be too big to keep at an apartment, she dropped him off at our horse farm to see if we can find a home for him. We needed a barn dog to signal strangers arriving as well as keeping the coyotes at bay and the raccoons out of the horse barn.
He did not take his horse barn job very seriously and whenever we lost sight of him, Barnie would disappear for the day and find himself a nice companion. Neighbours an farmers from the area (Pickering ) would occasionally show up with the latest off springs. Scott, next door at one point had two sets of little barnie monsters from his Siberian Husky.
After all the horses were gone...Barnie became an indoor dog..surprisingly he made the transition to an indoor critter without any troubles, accidents or complications, amazing really.
He lived in Hastings for a while as well as in Courtice and eventually in Cobourg as Tristans dog. Barnies best friends included Annette, Renate, his real keeper, Tristan...me, sort of, and Diana who truly loved this dog. In Hastings he helped to raise a bunch of Mexican Chuwawas, we still have one little one about 7 years old. He was a fine dog probably the best I've ever known and we will never forget him.
